Grants can be targeted toward an organization's specific programs, projects, capital needs or general operations. The Dart Foundation sometimes requires matching funds to be raised. Larger grants are often made over a multi-year period. The Dart Foundation does not make grants to individuals.

Dart Foundation Awards Special STEM Grants

Mason, Michigan December 21, 2011
|
Eight Mid-Michigan K–12 schools and five local organizations have been awarded grants by the Mason-based Dart Foundation. These grants, cumulatively totaling over $55,000, are related to science, technology, engineering, and math, commonly called STEM.
Schools receiving grants:
- Holt Public Schools, for Wilcox Elementary School’s Destination Imagination program
- East Lansing Public Schools, McDonald Middle School, to create a robotics technology class
- Mason Public Schools, to sponsor a robotics team at Mason High School and to establish a robotics technology class at Mason Middle School
- Williamston Community Schools, for robotics kits for Williamston High School
- Dansville Public Schools, for interactive whiteboard technology in the elementary school and in a math classroom of the high school
- DeWitt Public Schools, to sponsor a scientific research field trip
- Haslett Public Schools, for laptops for high school science classes
- Perry Public Schools, for Perry Middle School’s participation in the Michigan Science Olympiad
Organizations receiving grants:
- Lansing Community College Foundation, for science education for Gifted and Talented Education
- Cooperative Extension Service of Eaton County, for a pilot project of 4-H TechWizards
- Boys and Girls Club of Lansing, for laptop computers
- YMCA of Lansing, for camera equipment for STEM homework centers
- Highfields, Inc., new computers to be used to enhance academic progress and high school credit completion
Additionally, these STEM grants, cumulatively adding up to over $137,000, were awarded outside of Michigan:
California
- Chino Valley United School District, for the LEAD (LUGO Engineering and Design) Program
- Chino Valley STEM Magnet School, for equipment for the physics lab
- Riverside STEM Magnet School, for development and enhancement of the Robotics Club
- Vineyard STEM Magnet School, for multi-media productions of environmental issues and solutions in the community
Florida
- Bryan Elementary School, for tablet computers for the classroom
- MST For Girls, South Broward High School, support of Nora Wingfield Tyson Maritime Math, Science and Technology (MST) Outreach Program for Girls
- Plant City High School, for a woodshop chair project
- Sikes Elementary School, for science materials
- Trapnell Elementary, for a K–5 Science Lab
- Turkey Creek Middle School, for eight laptop computers for use in each of the science classrooms
Georgia
- Arabia Mountain High School, for equipment and supplies for the Oceanography and Human Anatomy and Physiology courses
- Henderson Mill Elementary, support of the "Engineering Is Elementary" curriculum which includes the "Small Fry to Go" program and the new LEGO Robotics team
- Lithonia Middle School, for microscopes and other equipment for life science department
- Redan Middle School, for math and science equipment and materials, robotics materials, and to help fund science fair and field trips
Illinois
- Batavia High School, sponsorship of 6th grade math contest and other various high school related math competitions
- East Aurora High School, for calculators for geometry students
- Herget Middle School, School District #129, for one interactive whiteboard and cables
- Indian Prairie School District #204, for supplies that will be distributed to three high schools for their after-school research labs
Kentucky
- Barren County Schools, for tablet computers for hearing impaired students
- Caverna Elementary, for tablet computers for math and science curriculum
- Caverna High School, awarded two grants
- for tablet computers
- for field trips
- Cub Run Elementary, for 10 tablet computers
- Glasgow High School, for equipment needed for implementing VEX Robotics into the Project Lead the Way program
- Highland Elementary, for expenses involved in the formation of a First Lego Team
- Le Grande Elementary, awarded two grants
- for digital camcorders, laptops and other technology equipment
- for field trips related to science, arts, and history
- Memorial Elementary, for tablet computers for math and science curriculum
Mississippi
- Enterprise Middle School, for interactive teaching systems, two tablet computers, two ink recording systems and two projectors
Pennsylvania
- Lancaster Foundation for Educational Enrichment, for renewable energy education kits, a digital balance, a sound interference kit, a vacuum pump and a generator
- Lancaster Science Factory, for the traveling exhibit "From Here to There"
- Shalom Partnership of Lancaster, for 2012 summer tutorial program which focuses on math, science and reading
Texas
- Avalon ISD, for math and science equipment and supplies
- Italy ISD, for interactive computers for Stafford Elementary School, materials for the community garden and to cover expenses to refurbish the computer lab
- Milford ISD, for an interactive whiteboard for Pre-K–6th grade classrooms and to purchase materials for math and science materials
- Palmer Middle School, for an interactive whiteboard, document camera, subscription to Study Island and 6th–8th grade math and science materials
- Rice Intermediate Middle School, for an interactive whiteboard and projectors
The Dart Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1984 by William A. and Claire T. Dart. Founded in Mason, Michigan, the mid-Michigan area has long been a focal point of Dart Foundation philanthropy. Grants toward science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for K–12 youth are one particular interest of the foundation.
