ONONDAGA, MI – Highfields Inc has received grants totaling more than $60,000 to help fund its various programs for at-risk youth and families.
The bulk of the funding came from the Dart Foundation and through the federal stimulus program – formally known as the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act – which each provided $25,000 to Highfields.
Onondaga-based Highfields also recently received $7,269 from the Capital Region Community Foundation, $2,185 from the Rite Aid Foundation and $1,500 from the Lansing Exchange Youth Foundation.
"Highfields truly appreciates the generosity of our supporters, especially in these uncertain economic times," says Highfields Development Director James R. Weidman. "We're fortunate to have partners who understand our mission of providing opportunities for struggling children and families."
The Mason-based Dart Foundation is a longtime supporter of Highfields programs.
The federal stimulus money will go toward new kitchen equipment at Highfields’ Onondaga campus, where Highfields operates residential programs for at-risk boys.

The grant from the Capital Region Community Foundation will help provide emergency needs such as winter coats, shoes and medical care to children and families in Highfields programs.
The Rite Aid funding will purchase medical supplies at the Onondaga campus, while the money from the Lansing Exchange Youth Foundation will allow Lansing-area children to participate in Highfields' Breakthrough Program, an adventure camp designed to help kids learn how to overcome challenges.
Founded in 1962, Highfields Inc is a not-for-profit organization providing home-based counseling, residential care, experiential education and support programs for families, youth and communities throughout mid-Michigan.
